Fancy Feet

Fancy Feet

Wednesday 10:00am (Jane Lane)

Beginner line dance class is open to men and women who want to learn basic line dance steps and be able to perform easy dances in a social setting. All that is needed is patience and a sense of humor. Proper footwear is stressed and steps are demonstrated, first without music and as confidence grows, simple dances to music are done. The importance of taking small steps and keeping head high are mentioned to help maintain balance. Weight changes as we move and listen to the rhythm of a song to catch the beat helps us move our feet and all steps are counted, cued and explained with each new dance. Questions are asked and answered and encouragement given to all.

Our intermediate class builds upon the basic steps and usually uses music with quicker tempo and the steps can be more intricate to challenge students as they make progress. Students are constantly reminded that there is never a mistake in their dancing, if they do something differently than what is choreographed, we simply say they are styling. Line dancing is a great exercise for mind and body and is the leading form of adult recreational dance. The important thing is to remember that motion is lotion, have fun and smile!
